Family Assistance and Emergency Services

VAC provides financial assistance with basic and emergency needs to low-income people in Boone County. These services are provided as long as funds are available and are subject to annual family limits and casework evaluations. Examples of these basic emergency services include:

  • Prescription medications or small medical equipment
  • Emergency food
  • Emergency shelter for families if area shelters are full
  • Bus tickets or gasoline for new jobs or medical appointments
  • Car seats and booster seats
  • Minor auto repair for employed persons
  • Uniform clothing as required to begin employment at a new job
  • Baby formula to last until the first WIC appointment
  • Missouri birth certificates, IDs and Driver’s Licenses
  • Hygiene items, diapers, small household items
  • College registration/application fees
