9th Annual Hero Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for the 9th Annual Hero Awards. These awards are presented by the Columbia Daily Tribune and Voluntary Action Center. This year, seven awards will be presented at the Hero Awards reception on April 20. You can submit a nomination online at the Tribune's website, download a form and return to VAC's office or stop by VAC's office for a paper form.

Voluntary Action Center has moved its offices from the Providence location to 403A Vandiver Drive. The new location will open on Tuesday, January 19 at 1 p.m. VAC's phone and fax numbers will remain the same. We look forward to continuing to serve the residents of Boone County in our new location.

Voluntary Action Center will be signing up families for the Homes for Computers program from January 6 through January 29, 2010. Only current VAC clients living in Columbia with children in Columbia Public Schools (grades K-12) are eligible to apply. Interested persons must bring proof of income, address and I.D. for all persons in the family to the VAC office during the registration period to fill out an application.


A drawing will be held to determine which applicants will receive a computer. Winners will be notified during the week of February 1. The computer distribution will be Saturday, February 20 from 9 a.m. to Noon at the Downtown Optimist "Friend of Youth" Building on Grand Avenue.
